ACTIONS: Fund the movement

Philanthropy can also be a powerful tool to advance equitable, effective climate action. There are many fantastic groups organizing to pass effective climate legislation, hold polluters accountable, ensure equity in climate solutions, provide assistance to those most affected by climate change, educate women and girls, change policies at all levels, and challenge corporate power. No matter what you’re most passionate about or how much money you can spare, there’s almost certainly a group that could make great use of your donation.

  • Pick an area (or three) that you’re passionate about, and find organizations that are doing effective work.
  • In particular, support groups led by the populations most vulnerable to pollution and climate change: low-income, Black, indigenous, people-of-color, disabled, and LGBTQ communities.
  • If you are hoping for a tax deduction, contribute to groups that focus on education, providing service, and building community. Most groups’ donation forms—printed or online—let you know whether the donation is tax-deductible, but if you’re not sure, ask!
  • Choose Resources > Organizations in this website's menu for a list of international, national, and regional organizations that could use your support.
